Ninety-Nines to Award 2019 Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship at Oshkosh

The Ninety-Nines will award a $3,000 Karen Johnson Solo Scholarship to provide a young woman (age 16-20 at any time during 2019 calendar year) who wants to learn to fly with financial support for flight training through first solo and beyond. In addition, the winner will receive a Lightspeed Aviation Zulu 3 aviation headset, a King Schools flight training course and a set of aviation books autographed by aviation legend and author Barry Schiff. The scholarship will be awarded at the Aviation Appreciation Dinner at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh on July 23, 2019.  For dinner info and reservations:

The scholarship honors the memory of Karen Johnson, a beloved member and chapter chair of the Ventura County Ninety-Nines, who perished in 2013 while flying frost control in Delano, California.

The 99s have been chosen to participate in Lightspeed Aviation Foundation’s recently announced 2018 Growth Initiative under which certain aviation nonprofits will receive up to 5 award-winning Zulu 3 headsets for recipients of the organization’s learn to fly scholarships.  The 2018 Solo Scholarship winner will receive a new Lightspeed Aviation Zulu 3 ANR aviation headset.  Four lucky winners of the 2018 Amelia Earhart Memorial Scholarship Fund Fly Now Awards will also receive new Zulu 3 headsets.

The Ninety-Nines are grateful to Lightspeed Aviation and the Lightspeed Aviation Foundation, Clay Lacy, Barry Schiff, the Ventura County chapter of the Ninety-Nines, and the King Schools for their support of this scholarship, and to Ennect Event and Elliance for hosting this scholarship web site.
